Hi this is my first time here. I was told you guys are great at helping with problems on fords.
My girlfriend has a 1994 explorer xlt with a v6 4.0l
She has been having a lot of problems with it just dieing on me. It will happen when she's driving along the road and some times when at a stop light. However, most of the time it just doesn’t want to start after she has driven it for a while. she’ll go somewhere and when it’s set for just a little while it will not start again. Once she let it set a little longer it will start up with a very low idle 200-400 and if she give it gas it will die again.
The check engine light doesn't come on during any of this. And the light does work.
I have no idea what it could be. Thanks in advance for any help.
Try replacing the relays in the fuse box in the engine compartment. I was having the same problem, especially in hot weather. Usually it would start right back up after about 10 minutes b ut after I had to let it stay at work overnight I got serious about fixing the problem. This site had a thread concerning the same problem and it worked for me. The relays cost about $4 each so even if it does not fix the problem, you won't be out much. Also, this problem forced me to take a look at my routine when I started the vehicle. Usually, I would get in and turn the key straight to the crank position and immediately start driving. Now, I turn the key to the on position, listen for the fuel pump to charge the system, start the engine and let it idle for a few seconds before putting it in drive. Hope this helps,
