I have a 97 Ford Ranger 4.0L. I have changed the 1,2 & 3 wires but am having a heck of a time getting the 4,5 & 6 wires out. They are all crammed in there together. Neither the Chilton or the Hayne's manual say anything about taking any other parts off to get at these. Is there an easy way to get them off? Thanks.
I had to take off my tire on one side to get a better reach to the plugs. I also had to slide the wire one at a time under the plastic intake. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to get a better grip to pull them from under that intake. The side im talking about is the right side if you are looking at the front of the truck. The other side was easy just pull the boots and change them.
Yeah. That's the side I was talking about. What a pain in the butt! I managed to do it by disconnecting a bunch of the electrical from around the plastic intake and unscrewing the one part that is mounted to it on rubber bushings. Still had a hard time getting my hands into those spots. Good thing I have small girl hands! After all of that, the problem was a cracked sparkplug and probably had nothing to do with the wires. Oh well, they needed to be replaced anyway.
