Wiring in the msd

I am currently running an MSD 6al and need to change how I have the small red wire wired in. It has to have power in the on and start position. It's currently wired into my low pressure brake light and need to get it off that. What source did you use to wire in the small red wire?

Thanks Orich. For some reason I didn't tie into that wire when I installed the MSD years ago. I wasn't sure if that was a resistor wire and produced less voltage and the MSD needs a full 12 volts. Or I'm confusing when I wired in for a duraspark and it needs a non resistor wire to supply a full 12 volts.

I was running HEI dizzy and had to replaced the whole resistor wire with a heavy #10 gauge wire into the ignition rear plug to get 12volts.

So I pulled the HEI dizzy an installed a Duraspark Dizzy setup with a MSD 2 coil so, I had to add resistor block to reduce the 12 volts to 6-8 volts.

My point is you can change out the pink resistor wire on the ign. plug.

I went to the junk yard found me a Chevy truck and remove the #10 HEI
12 volt dizzy wire and installed it into the ign plug of mine for a full 12 volts..

I have the special terminal removing tool to compress the little tab-lock that keep the wire from sliding out the back of those plastic ign plug that pushes onto the back of the ign. plug.

A small thin very little screw driver can be used to compress the lock tab with a little skill. You can Practice removing the lager Pink dizzy wire on the chevy trucks as there ign has those same locking tabs on there ign switch.

Put the big #10 wire into back of your ign switch, then your good to go..
You don't need to remove the old pink resistor wire just take it out of the plug and tape it back then remove the other end at the coil an tape it out of the way if you don't want to remove it.

I just plugged the old coil wire into the red wire coming from the MSD and it's working. Not sure if this will be a problem in the future but it's working now. Was the coil wire the resistor wire on these old points trucks?

I'm running a duraspark with a MSD coil and MSD 6AL. Think the original coil wire will be ok to plug into?

That old coil wire is a resistor wire not enough voltage coming through it.

6-9 volts for the normal points voltage

So I need to replace it with what? And, how will it affect the MSD running it hooked to the old coil wire?

You also can run a relay setup 12 volt wire fron the battery to the replay then MSD box
The oil coil wire can be used to activate the relay sending the battery 12 volts to the MSD box.

Like off road driving light are setup with a relay.

May be will help remember Ign switch is your low voltage input would be the old coil wire that would go to pin#86 & #85 to ground

A Hot fused from Battery will be #30 main in 12 volts for the box sa it comes out will be going out #87 to your MSD Box Ok
Now watch video

Thanks for the video it was helpful to understand how relays work. Not sure I want to do all that or just run a new wire from ignition switch. The resistor wire is currently running the MSD box and the truck runs fine. Will this hurt the box or does it just not let things operate at full potential?

I can't really tell you but the pink wire may get hotter then it's suppose to. Figure out the amps used for both points & the MSD box.

This what the little tool looks like to remove the contacts out of the plugs.

The one flat one is all most like on a street sweeper steel rotoring bristles.
