maintaining fluids

how do i change the transmission fluid in my ford f 250?

It depends on what tranny you have and what year truck it is. On an auto there may be a drain plug or there may not. If there isn't one you have to pull the trans pan down to change. While your in there you may as well get a filter kit and change that to. On a standard there should be 2 plugs on the side of the tranny, one for checking the level and one for draining. After you refill with the required amount of fluid run the truck, check for leaks, and re-check fluid.

This probably goes without saying but if you do drop the pan be careful to tighten them to spec to avoid leaking and to avoid stripping the screw holes.

And, drain the torque converter, if its an automatic.

You see if there's any overtime availible at work, you work it to make enough to take the truck to the dealer and have him change the automatic transmision fluid. Because a bad day at work will always beat a good day changing your auto-transmission fluid.
