Gday guys, I've found a 53 short bed down here in Australia (which is real rare).JUst wondering if you think its a good deal. Fenders and bonnet primed and ready to hang, jag ifs front end, 9 in disc brake rear end, 400 ci and c6 ( in the bed) intreior redone, glass and chrome all there ( again in the bed ) and frame blasted and primed. Guy wants $3500 aus which is about $2600 US. What do you guys think considering I'll have to get parts shipped from stateside to complete.
I doubt any of us in the US are in a better position than you to determine the value of the truck and most of us (especially me) have too much invested in our trucks to ever expect to turn a profit if we were to sale. In fact if your considering getting into these trucks for anything other than the love of the style and the desire to have what most don't, you would be wise to pass on it. If our wife’s ever found out what we really had invested in our trucks and all the goodies you 'need' to work on them, they would have us all committed.
With all that being said, it sounds like a very reasonable investment to me, especially considering the mods already done.
Gordo350, grab it if it's got a good cab and doors. I paid $3200 for mine which was a rough truck which still had the flathead in it , about $8000 later it's still a long way from finished. Like i said , if it's got a good cab and doors, the hood and fenders are primed and ready to hang as you said grab it .
If you don't, let me know where it is and i will.
Also, almost any part you will need to complete will be available in australia, they do come from the states but you can get them all here.
Like i said if you don't want it , let me know where it is and i'll grab it.
Scott.
Know all about what the potential cost could be. (sleeping alone, pizza etc), Just didnt know the value of the truck as a project. Ive already got a 65 f 350 that I'm working on , albeit that is still on the road. Guess I needed to sound out if I could handle another project. Scott, I'm going to see the truck today so I can give you a detailed description if I dont go ahead with it. Where are you, I'm in Melbourne.
I want a 1948 -1950 F1 with the steering wheel on the wrong side. I doubt I will ever be able to find one or afford to have it shipped over to the states.
Gordon , i'm in Geelong so i'm not far away. If you take a look at the truck and decide you don't want it let me know. Where is the truck, and how did you find it?
Scott.
Sounds like a damn good deal if its in the shape you described. Most of it has been started and the best thing is it hasnt went to far to change things if you want to and if not all you need to do is put her together.... Wish mine was going to be that easy.
sounds like a fair deal ,the only concern that i would have if i lived where you are is replacement parts and the price of shipping . if they are as rare to find in your location this could be a huge factor. i have a friend who restores old motorcycles ( pre 1918 indians ) that has been finding parts from your area while the parts are reasonably priced the shipping costs to the u.s. have been high . with all that being said if you do purchase the truck it sure will be a headturner when done. good luck
