97 and 99 Powerstroke differences

97 and 99 Powerstroke differences
What, if any, are the differences between a 97 and 99 powerstoke diesel? If treated as a long block, could the 97 be used to replace the 99? I know about the intercooling, and I am sure the computer programming is different, but is there any other reason it couldn't be used? Thanks in advance-Nicholas

I don't know if it makes a difference but from 99 on they used an electric fuel pump instead of a mechanical pump. I don't know if they have the proper mounts on the later one so you would have to convert it to electric pump if that were the case. Later HPOP is higher volume - a big plus if you want bigger injectors. That's all I know.
