I bought this truck as is and it didnt come with an instruction manual. So among many other things, Im wondering about the automatic locking hubs. Do I need to reverse to unlock them. Someone told me its the vacum type but im not to sure myself. I was also wondering at what rpm will i get the best gas milage. I live in hawaii and gas is atleast $2.00. I was also wondering about my differentials. The vin decoder doesnt tell me anything.
Yes, your truck has the "Pulse Vacuum Hubluck" 4x4 engagement system. You don't need to put it in reverse to unlock the hubs. The PVH system is shift-on-the-fly (meaning you can engage 4x4 High while driving under 45 mph), but I hardly ever do that on my truck. I always try and stop, first. Same thing when I disengage. Just seems to make more sense to me.
You can find your axle code on the the driver's side door sticker:
Brandan-how is that trucks power? Does it accelerate well and haul decently? Lastly, how is it on gas? If you've driven a 4.0 how does it compare to that? Sorry for all the questions when your trying to find solutions, but I'm looking to buy a ranger and am trying to figure which V6 to buy since I'm coming from an economy car.
Im really happy with it. My grandmas 4.0 automatic has significantly more power. Im not to sure about the 4.0's gas mileage. With my truck i usually get about 18 to the gallon and thats while driving with a lead foot. Ive only had the truck now for about a month and i bought it with 64400 miles on it. Ive put a little over 1000 miles on it so far and theres power for acceleration at around 3000 rpm but im not sure if its just my roads where i live but i cant seem to hit 80 mph. My friend has a 4x2 S-10 like 2.2 or something and does 85 easily. My old 2.9 could also do 85 so im kinda wondering where im not getting the power.
Havent had a chance to really haul anything yet i wanna try and take out my 14' boat but havent had time. Just so u guys know this info is coming from a 17 year old.
Highway but i live in Hawaii so the roads here on the Island i live on are 3 lanes at the most and they arnt the best for high speeds. but ive done 85 with my 2.9 4x2 supercab. I figured that 10 years .1 liter and front drive would give me atleast the same performance.
