Today when I changed oil I looked on the back of the 5w-20 Motorcraft oil container and I noticed that the oil meets Ford's WWS MC2930A specs. Also it is for service SM.
Is this an upgrade? Is this better oil than M2C153-H? Will it work in my '03 Screw?
Thanks,
Ned
Yep, it's the new upgraded oil. Use it in good health . And yes it's great for your 2003 S'crew or any vehicle that was originally spec'd for WSS-M2C153-H, 5W-20 oil.
Howdy Ned,
I can speak to the specifics of the 5w20, but a brief comment about my experience with Motorcaft oil.
I use their 10w30 in my 2000 w/ 4.2.
My UOA returned great numbers after about 5,000 miles of use.
I am a big fan of their oil and use it exclusively now (used ot use Chevron Supreme until Wally World stopped carrying it).
I would also use the Motorcraft 15w40 in my powerstroke, but it only comes in QTs, and IM not going to stand there and pour 15 QTs in. So untill I can redily get it in Gal. Ill stick to the Rotella-T in Gal. jugs
My wifes Chevy even likes the Motorcraft 10W30. And at the last change for winter I put the new syn 5W30 in it. The bow tie has never been happier ( I also use it in my Ford trucks), and my Bronco II is running better with less leaks using Motorcraft 10W30 than with Castrol 10W30.

It also comes in 5 quart jugs ..... yep ,yep it does
Geeze , no time to pour pour oil ? Sounds odd but to each his own
Pouring the oil in is the best part of the change, that and the smell of the used oil. But 15 qts definitely could be tedious. I have not cared for the 5 qt jugs of Valvoline because I have to use a funnel and I don't like the foil seal (always think a tiny bit is going to drop into the oil and destroy the engine). But some of the other 4 and 5 qt jugs have the smaller neck that could fit right in the fille tube--nice.

Yes 15 separate qts is a pain. 4 gals is much easier.
Also it is very difficult to carry 15 qts, but 4 gals I can do.
I don't need NO Stinking cart...
I have not seen it (motorcraft 15w40) readily available in gal in my area, not saying they do not offer it, but not in my area.

I concur about the Chevron 10w-30. I got 4ppm iron and 0 ppm lead in a 4980 mile interval on a 2000 4.2 using that oil and a Wix 51516. I tried to buy some for my new Titan and noticed that WalMart was no longer carrying it as well. So I went to O'Reilley's and bought 7 quarts at $1.39 per. I may use the Motorcraft 10w-30 in the future though as it has a nice add pack and is a Group II/III blend. Plus I can go to WalMart and buy it at 2am if I want .
What kind of analysis results have you gotten in your 4.2 with the MC 10w-30?
