I have a 77 f150 with a 400 in it. Last night when I turned on my heater it started sqeaking. As the truck warmed up the sound got louder. I think it is coming from under the dash but I am not for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
About the only part of the heating system that squeals is the fan. Does the noise stop when you turn off the heater? The only way to fix it is to replace the fan motor - about $25 at any parts store.
Does it have factory a/c? If so, follow the step by step instructions for replacing the heater core in the tech articles section (link at top right of page). The fan motor is next to the heater core.
Mine did that at one point, actually just after I changed the core and fan motor. The cause of my noise was the squirrel cage fan rubbing on the fan housing. I agree with the others though, if you haven't changed it in a while it's probably the motor bearings.
drill a small hole through the casing on the motor from the engine compartment side and shoot some wd40 in it. its kept mine going for 2 years now and gets rid of the squeek
