I recently purchased a 2001 Eddie Bauer edition ford explorer. The factory radio is ok but I would like to change it out for something with an MP3 cd player in it. The only problem is I don't want to lose control of the radio from the steering wheel controls. Is there a way to wire in an aftermarket head unit and still use the steering wheel controls?
Being that it's an Eddie Bauer I assume it has the factory sub system. Sometimes just replacing the radio is all you need to "wake up" the system.
You will need two products to do this. One is the steering wheel interface which requires a sony or other radio that has a remote. You can find the unit Here
Also the piece that adapts your radio to the premium sound system. You can find that unit Here
Thank-you dirty dogg, that's pretty much what I needed to know, I am happy to hear that there is something out there and I don't have to stay with the factory head unit.
I would like to do the same for a 2004 mountaineer (premier v8 with the factory sub) how would I know if I need the 4 channel radio replacement interface? Thanks!
