AOD overdrive slips

1990 Bronco with 5.0 FI engine and AOD transmission. Transmission just started slipping when in overdrive. Seems to shift OK 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and doesn't slip. Now when I put it in overdrive I noticed it rev up so obviously I don't put the shifter in overdrive anymore. If I do put it overdrive from a stop everything works OK and it shifts thru all of the gears but of course when it shifts into OD and I step on it, it will slip. What do you think, clutches? Any of you average mechanics rebuild your own transmissions? I've rebuilt dozens of car, truck, Harley, equipment, mower, etc., engines, manual transmissions from all types of things, and repaired just about anything and everything but I've never tried to rebuild an automatic transmission. In automatics I've changed the valve body, installed shift kits, fixed the band when it fell off of my F250 C6 etc., but never actually disassembled one. Any suggestions on parts or specialized tools I may need. Or should I just use common sense and take it to someone that knows what they are doing? Of course this last option is about $1000 beyond my budget.
