Help! P0734 Code
1995 Ford Ranger XLT Reg. Cab - 2.3L 4 cyl. - 90,000 miles
After driving for about 10 minutes or so, the overdrive light starts flashing and then it starts to shift hard in to 1st/2nd. Also, noticed Coolant stays low. Took it to Ford and they said new/rebuild tranny - 4th gear slipping.
My bill says
P0734 code in PCM
Diag electronic trans. P0734
Overdrive band slips when hot and
would need overhaul to repair or replace.
Everything is in great shape. Overdrive function turns on/off just fine. When it's flashing, it can't be turned on/off. I typically just turn off the truck for a minute and then I'm good to go again. I've disconnected the battery to clear it out, but it's still coming on. Heard it may be more electrical than anything else, and I've read on here that it could be several things and not necessarily need any tranny work.
Any thing I can try before putting money in to a new tranny?
Thanks!

Did the problem come about suddenly after some event, or have you been having shifting problems for a while????
Has the tranny fluid & filter ever been changed???
How is the tranny fluid condition & fluid level????
It actually shifts like a champ! Both shops said the trucks in great shape. Recently had a transmission flush and fluids are good. They just got checked. The filter I'm almost sure was changed too.
Can probably use some new spark plugs but they said I can wait a couple months on that.
Thanks again!
Most tranny flush routines Don't include a pan drop & filter change, we have to request & pay Extra for it!!!! Look on your service reciept to see if a tranny filter is listed.
