EGR engine codes...

I own a '92 Ranger 4x4 with the 4.0L engine. I keep getting fault code 34 - how is this possible when 90 - 92 Ranger w/ 4.0L engines don't have EGR??? I'm also getting code 57 and 73 - from memory. The 'Check Engine' light illuminates after driving for about 5 - 10 mins (once vehicle is warmed up). Turning it (the truck) off and then back on will clear the fault for a few minutes. Doesn't appear to be damaging but would like to clear the problem. Thanks.

how do you pull the ECU codes? which pins do you short out?

If you keep getting code 73, I suspect the TPS is reading too high. Code 57 would indicate an intermittent fault in the neutral safety switch.

I've since replaced the TPS (got rid of code 73) and found code 41 during the Engine running test - which I've cleared as well by replacing the Oxygen sensor. Keep getting code 34 though - just about out of ideas...

EGR engine codes...

I had a mechanics teacher back in high school that told me some fords will always show an EGR code. I think there might be truth to that as both 87 rangers I've driven have showed it.
