This is for all you older Ford specialists,
I am up to the task of rewiring my 1970 Ford pickup, I have a question about the four wires coming out of the voltage regulator, 3 of them connect to the alternator and one goes (it's a green/blue one) somewhere else. Does anybody know where these four wires go, I've got a big fat yellow one, white/blackstrp, orange, and that blue one, i think it's blue anyway. I tore a voltage regulator and harness out of a 79 Ford 2wd, my old harness was complete junk. Is there anything else about this circuit I should know?
F: connects to the field terminal on the alternator
S: connects to the stator terminal on the alternator and electric choke on the carb
A: connects to the battery positive post on the solenoid switch
I: connects to the ignition circuit
Here's a pic of a '79 wiring diagram to aid you with what that year harness has.
The 4 wire hook-up requires a alternator "idiot" light inthe dash. The 3-wire hook-up does not. And the regulators seem to work ok, even if you have a 4 terminal reg but only use 3 of the terminals.
