Howdy Folks,
Just got home from the North Country (Vanderhoof, BC. & 150 km. into the bush from there) with my camp and a moose in the back of my '79 F250 4X4.
I've got 6" Skyjackers up front and a set of jobber 6" lift leaf springs in the rear.
Great travel and traction, sits perfect when empty but is a tail dragger with a load in it.
Any suggestions on what to do that would allow for good travel, soft ride and yet firm up when there's a load?
Am thinking of an Add a Leaf or maybe overloads.
Thanks,
Pat Patrick
(Yahoo, moose for the winter!!!!!)
Chances are that the "jobber" springs you used aren't rated for the 1200 plus lbs moose you had in the back. Or even any other sizable load. Most poeple don't carry that much weight in the back of their truck lifted 6 inches.
Thought of the airbag route but with 6" of lift it's quite a chore to build the brackets that allow the approximatly 6" of useable airbag to be used and then the travel is gone when I'm off-roading in a ditch or washout. The long travel of the front and rear suspension is really good in the rough stuff. I'd hate to lose it.
Yeah, Gotta agree, most folks don't use their trucks with loads in them, especially 6" lifted ones. I've only got that load in it on the way out and back, when I'm there, the truck is unloaded.
Wonder whether overloads might do the trick? I've got them on my 1/2 ton '78 and it's amazing what it'll carry. Will be trying the 2" blocks under the springs for a starter and will go from there. It does work the way it is but it looks way overloaded and that might get me jacked up by the highway guys some day, and that's never nice. Might even find that I'm way over gvw. Shame Pat, shame.
