is there a difference in pumps that have 1 hose to cover all 3 kinds of fuel, between the ones that have a hose for each fuel type. because dont u think the ones with ones hose would have some fuel left in the hose from the last person that say put in premium? i was just wodnering if there was a difference in the two types of service.
I think the pumps that use one hose, and have a vapor-recovery system like here in SoCal, evacuate the hose after each use............I could be wrong.
Even if they don't suck the fuel back down, the amount of "different" fuel that you would be getting is minimial compared to what you would be pumping through the hose. Different fuel types are blendable and mixable. Often times "mid-grade" and "regular" are actually the exact same fuel, out of the exact same tank. Some gas companies find that it is more expensive to transport the "regular" unleaded to certain markets rather than just give you "mid-grade" for the price of "regular." Look at the sticker on the fuel, it says "minimum octane rating", not MAXIMUM, or EXACT octane rating. The fuel that you buy must meet (or exceede) the minimum octane rating posted.

If you are filling a 1 or 2 gallon gas can with Premium for your two cycle mix gas, then YES it can make a difference. There will be a gallon or more of fuel in the hose and pump, and it will be whatever grade was purchased by the person before you.
A gallon makes virtually no difference when buying 10-20 gallons at a time. But when I take my can down to buy mix gas, I'll put a gallon or two in the truck first and then get my 5 gallons in the can. That way I'm getting all five gallons of premium for my tuned, tweaked and modified chainsaws.
