Heated mirrors??

We're getting the frost here in central oregon and I thought my 2001 f350 had a defroster for the large," stock" mirrors I have. I thought I would check here before I have to walk outside and read the manual and look for a blown fuse. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Most mirrors, if they are in fact heated, will have a little emblem in the corner similar to the defrost emblem on the HVAC controls.

If they are the stock 2001 mirrors - no. Heated mirrors came out with the '04 trucks - maybe '03 - about the same time as the 6.0 PSD. But stock mirrors on earlier trucks were not available with heaters that I am aware of.

thanks for the info, I just recalled that in previous winters I did'nt have my lumber rack on the truck and so I was able to pull it into my 7' high garage. Which is why in the past, I never had to scrape my mirrors.

Be careful what you scrape the mirrors with too - they scratch pretty easy. My Dad scratched the hang out of the mirrors on his old truck trying to get ice off them!! I don't scrape mine at all unless I really really have too....

ive seen on big trucks where you can buy a heat pad that sticks on the back of your glass. looks like the defrost wires in a pad like in the back windows of cars. then you could just hook up a switch and a tstat too it. ill try to find out this week where i saw the stuff. havent done it to my truck cause it dosnt get that cold here, when it is frosted over i just take the garden hose to them

Heated mirrors we not available until 2002. As far as I know, they are hard wired (no switch) and are on whenever the ignition is on.

I have a 01 F350 and the mirrors have the emblem on them. My prob is that neither of them work and I am having trouble finding any info on them. Does anyone know of the switching mechanism on these? My owners manual shows the smaller mirrors with the heat option on a reg cab. These are switched on with the rear window defrogger. With the SD CC there is not a RWD, hence no combo switching. Any ideas...??

This statement is correct. Also, all the headed TT mirrors have turn signals built in.

Waskeer: Do you have the paddle mirrors or the big tow mirrors? I am not aware of any Superduty with the heaters before th 02 model. Is it possible you have the marked glass but nothing behind it? Pull the door panel and check how many wires are in the mirror harness.

I put the TT mirrors from a 2002 on my 2000 - they do not have the turn signals. They do fold both directions, which I believe is a 2002 option - I know the 2000 mirrors only fold back against the door and not forward.

Unhappy More mirror questions

I have the big manually extendable, power heated mirrors. They have the 'heat emblem' on them and if you look behind the glass you can see the two electrical connectors hooked up to the heat pads.

I think that these must have been added by the previous owner as everyone I talk to states that these never were supplied on the 2001's. In addition, the dealer did a VIN search and the build spec states that the truck was assembled paddle style sport mirrors (on a F350 SD CC... what were they thinking???).

Anyway, as far as the heaters go, I think I will have to wire in a manual switch... no problem. Unfortunately, the power gears in the RH mirror are stripped and I need to replace the entire mirror. Since this was not the stock mirror, I can't seem to find the P/N at the Ford dealer.

Does anyone know the Ford P/N for a RH manually extendable heated power towing mirror? It is probably from an 02 or 03...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

My 2000 Excursion XLT has the big telescopic heated mirrors, no turn signal in them. They work with the rear defrost switch...as per the owners manual :].

Sweet - wish Ford had figured out a way to put a rear defroster (and switch) on a sliding rear window in the F series :-)
