1942 Ford-MH SnoGo.

Hi
I've just bought a 1942 Ford Marmon Herrington SnoGo.the truck is very complete and original and it thought to be one of a batch bought to the UK during WW2 under "lend-lease".the basic truck before Marmon Herrington carried out the 4wd converson was a Ford 29T. the chassis number of the truck is KMM5-4-499640.I know KMM5-4 is the Marmon Herrington model but I would like to know if it is possible to find out the year and month the truck was made? I say it's a 42 as that's the style of cab.I'm also looking for details of the Ford MH SnoGo trucks being used during WW2 and basically any details relating to the SnoGo units would be of great help.
Thanks!
Matt.

Matt, welcome the boards. Sounds like your truck is a '42 judging by the model number you gave, the 2 is the model year. As far as the other info, I can't be of much help there as I am not as knowledgable when it comes to MH work.

SnoGo

Hi Matt
A few years ago one of the UK military vehicle mags did a story on them.
What engine do you have powering the snow machine?

Truck Engine

The truck is powered by a flathead Ford V8.the engine that is actually fitted is a British made Ford engine as the original US made unit was removed when the truck went through a depot rebuild sometime in it's life.

The 499640 fits with a '42 Ford V8 engine number. Its only about 30,000 above what is accepted as the first '42 number.

darvy, would be glad to help, but, at the moment, manual is in someone elses hands. as soon as it's back, will respond. what bearings in particular are you looking for? (location)
