Congratulations on quitting. I'm a smoker myself, and have tried to quit and know how tough it is, I keep starting up again. I wish you the best of luck in trying to kick the habit.

Congrats on making it three days! I have tried to quit several times using various methods. Never had any sucess at it though. I had talked to the doctor about it once and she said if you do quit one of the best things you can do at first is cut your caffeine intake WAY back. She said that nicotine speeds caffeine through the body almost twice as fast as a non smoker. That would make you cranky and shaky just absorbing all that extra! Seems to me she said to drink LOTS of water too, but I forget why.

I smoked over two packs a day for six years. Quit in '79. How'd I quit? Chewed on tooth picks for five years! It worked--have never smoked even one cigarette since. I carried my supply of tooth picks in a waterproof match case. Probably chewed about 40 a day. Chewed up tooth picks were all over the floor of my '77 F100.

Smoked 1-2 packs of Marlboro a day for 19 years. Quit Feb 5, 2001 cold turkey with the help of my doctor, wellbutrin, klondike bars, and oranges. Its been just over a year and 20 pounds later. I also quit drinking for 2 months until I felt I could have a beer without the nicotine urge. And now I don't miss cigarettes one bit, ever.
Now, I was an obsessive ritualistic smoker (the worst kind) and never thought I could quit. In fact, I'm still amazed. So, if I can do it...I'll bet you can to. Do some research and understand addiction and its withdrawl syptoms-I know it helped me to recognize why I felt the way I did (grumpy, depressed, whatever) so I could deal with it. I also went to my doctor and told her to open up her prescription tablet-whatever it takes to quit.
I bought a Harley with all the money I saved (about $250/month)!!
Good luck to you.
John
