Shocking F 150

Does anyone else get shocked when they get out of their truck? I have gray cloth seats and when I slide out and grab the door to close it ,I get zapped..What can you do to stop it?

Static electricity. Everyone complains about the humidity here in FL but I don't get shocked getting out of a car unless I'm elsewhere in the country. It happens more often when the humidity is lower. A few years ago I spent some time in Tucson around Christmas and after about 3 days of electotherapy I got to where I didn't want to get in a car.

I grab the metal on the door before getting both feet on the ground, and then close it without the zap. But sometimes I forget.

Weird... I used to have a 1997 ford expedition (grey cloth) that would just about send me to the electric chair everytime I got out. Now on my 2004 fx4 (black cloth) doesn't give me a problem.
I learned that there is no good way to fix this. I did learn, however, a trick to make it not hurt so bad.
When you shut off the car, take the key out of the ignition and hold the METAL part of the key in your right hand. As you exit the vehicle, touch the other end of the METAL part of the key to the inside edge of the door. This will transfer the static electricity built up in YOU to the door, and prevent the arc from hurting you.
Hope this helps,
MK

yea its drying out cause of winter. i think theres something you can buy that hangs off the bottom of the truck thats supposed to get rid of the static. i dont have the problem but i only close the truck using the handle anyways to prevent smudges.

In the old days the gas/oil trucks used to drag large pieces of logging chain from the axles. This was the very reason they did that, they did not want to make a spark when they were pumping fuel!

Smile Static Guard

I'v had this problem on several outfits, drives you nuts. Get a can of spray "Static Guard" you can find it in the laundry section of most grocery and wally world. Supposed to eliminate the problem of "static cling" on womens garments. Hose the seats down good with it an let it dry. Works like a champ. Doesn't seem to wear off but will come off if you use an upholstry cleaner on the seats. I just reapply it about every 6 months for good measure.

Yup, Static Guard, we use it on our medical equipment to keep patients from static shocking the equipment.
