Personally, I'm sick of it. If anything I want to turn them ahead not back. Who cares if it's dark in the morning ? I'd rathar it be light when getting out of work.
How did this ever get started anyway ?
Move to Indiana...we don't try to "cheat time" here. They've tried for years to get us to do the daylight savings time thing...WE DON'T WANT IT!! I think it all started so the doctors and lawyers could get in another round of golf before sunset. The whole idea is nothing short of idiotic to me.
I beleive that it was intended so that school kids could get safely to school in the morning. After school you don't have the traffic that there is in the morning. I would like it if they just made it a half hour each way and leave it alone. I hate changing clocks.
It's an older concept than I thought, and much more widespread. I thought it was a WWII gimmick dreamed up by the Roosevelt administration. Of course, they did use it as a political gimmick, but they were far from the first.
It's here to stay, and it's got deep roots, so get used to it. Read on:
I don't mind daylight savings time at all. It's still dark in the morning and dark at night. If we didn't set our clocks back an hour in the fall, it would be dark here, midwinter, at 4PM. As it is, by 5pm it gets pretty dark anyway. Also..in winter, having an extra bit of daylight to help take the ice off the windows doesn't bother me at all either.
Actually, daylight savings time is ending tomorrow, not starting. The daylight savings is to take better advantage of the summer daylight hours. Some have proposed keeping the daylight savings time year 'round and that would be fine with me. Or put the time back to normal and everyone can just get up an hour earlier in the summertime. The original complaint about it getting dark too early is a good argument to keep daylight savings time year 'round.
94, read the first two of my links posted above, it goes back to Ben Franklin. Your reference is just the "modern" era, in the US.
According to the CA.gov site, California is trying to go DST all year.
They have some stats showing how it saves power due to the timing of lighting, TV's etc.
In Western Washington, it was great to still be in twilight at 10PM in June, but it was the pits to be in the dark at 16:45 in December. In that zone, there is no fix, as DST will make it dark at 0700 or later if you used it in the winter.
It's all really nonsense, but I suppose it's easier to "pretend" it's a certain time than to redo your schedules to fit the daylight pattern. Everyone can agree on DST, but every company and agency resetting their hours would be chaos on acid.
I hate DST....only cause it means the end of summer....... all soon to be fixed.
I open all my sodas and let them sit emmiting all the CO2 I can to help out global warming.....then it'll always be summer.
Two of the places I go often don't have daylight saving... Arizona, and Indiana.. However, I have a slight problem... I leave tomorrow, for Las Vegas, (the SEMA show,) and I will be travelling a couple of days to get there.. During that time the daylight mess up time will occur, and I will be a lot west of here, so what time do I put my darned watch to.. ??????????
I get it wrong when I stay in the same time zone, I hate to think how much I can mess it up crossing zone bounderies.
85e150six4mtod, i dont suppose you are in whidbey island?? i used to hate doing fod walkdown in the winter because it was still dark and we had to take flashlights out and do it, i dont think we found everything that we could. but i loved everything else about the times up there. kinda neat to see the sun starting to come up over the mountains at 0300

I think DST sucks too ... and most of Indiana does not observe it. The portion in the Central Time Zone by Chicago and Evansville do observe DST. All but 4 counties in the Eastern time zone do not, 2 by Louisville, and two by Cinncinnati. I would guess for commuting purposes.
Traditionally, the farmers and drive-in movie industry is who fought DST. Farmers wanted their hour of daylight in the morning than the evening. Drive -in's wanted to start earlier to show more movies. Of course we now know the fate of drive-in's ... and the standard movie theater is going to go the same way if they don't quit jacking around the price of admission.
Congresscritter Julia Carson (D-9th) tried to ram a bill thru Congress to force states to go to DST. It failed thank $DEITY.
The latest attempt by Indiana to go DST was to put the entire state on Central or Eastern time. Lake County fought going on Eastern, and the areas along the Kentucky and Ohio borders fought going onto Central. Supposedly Mitch Daniels wants to hold a voter's referendum to decide if we want to go to DST or stay as we are.
