my friends at ford say the motor is not overheating and it is a faulty guage reading and they are trying to create a solution, i assume it will be a computer or sensor error, they even told me not to waste my money on an aftermarket guage system, its under warranty so im going to watch it for now
no, i have never smelled antifreeze, there have been no leaks either, i only have 2000 miles on my 05, i am going on another trip tomorrow and it will be pulling about 15,000 lbs over some long steep grades, if there are any changes ill post them when i return
Good luck on your trip. Please post upon your return. I only have 800 miles on my truck. I'm really curious to see what others have experienced before I set out on a long trip pulling a reasonably heavy trailer.
This is also my third F-350. I went to Dodge after my 2003 6.0 was bought back by Ford and now I'm back. Not that the Dodge was bad but, it just did'nt have the room and power of the Ford. I really have my fingers crossed that Ford has figured it out.
i have read about other people having antifreeze overflow, they seem to think its from overfilling and they seem to be talking about 03 and 04 models, dont think any were about 05, dont know if system is the same, ford constantly is changing things, hopefully for the better. a common concern seems to be the deterioration of the oil and the need to change it more often than the manual says, i spend about 6 months a year towing heavy including areas like the canadian rockies, i think i will keep my 05 stock and change the oil often.
