2bbl vs 4bbl in a 400

I have been arguing with my dad about putting a 4bbl on his truck and taking the 2bbl off. His mechanic told him it would not benifit him as all my dad uses the truck for is hunting and towing the trailor around, i disagree. he has a 400 in his truck right now and the truck has alot of money into it and is a really nice fixed up 1979. he has a new flat bed on it and most the time puts two fourwheelers on the back to go up in teh hills with. everyone else we are with does not seem to have the same problems we do going up hills and gettting around in teh snow and mud does anyone think a 4bbl would help or not and if so what carb would you recommend. I appreciate any help. and yes we do have the truck lifted along wth really aggresive tires on it.

I put an edlebrock performer intake and a 600 holley on my 79 F250. It made a very noticeable difference in power. It made pulling the camper alot easier.

Putting a 4brl on it is going to be one of the best things he can do for the ole 400. I run a Carter 625 w/edelbrock performer 400 intake, does me well towing

If your not a lead foot the 4bbl will be better on economy too. You will be running on the smaller primaries most of the time which will be a boos in econoy and crisper take off. I f you stick your foot in it alot though....

On the 400 you will get worse economy if you go 4bbl unless you go with either an Edelbrock (quadrajet), Carter Thermoquad or equivalent. Tiny Primaries and Huge secondaries, thats the only way, otherwise you are better off to stick with the 2bbl.

Well if ur towing or hauling with this truck I would get a 4bbl.I'd say get the eldebrock 600 4bbl.,thats what I had on my 78 F-150 with 351M in it before I took it apart.I also had a eldebrock alumin.intake and some hedman headers. And when I rebuild the motor I'm stroking it out to a 400 and I'm still gonna run all that stuff on it.

If I was him I would get all that stuff for that truck,at least get a 4bbl. but if he gets the alumin. intake and some headers its gonna help his gas mileage and give u more power.Dual exhaust would help too.And this stuff can be put on easily one weekend so the trucks not gonna be down for a long period of time 2 days at the most.

Just my input.

Dan

definately an illum. intake (wieand or edelbrock) and a good 600 cfm 4v carb. an inexpensive set of headers too and you got a good hp and trq increase.
