im looking at replacing the tires on my 2002 cc 4x and the best prices have been on these tires so far. i had bfg at on my last truck and loved them but they are much more $$$$ and being tight on money now arnt in my range. any thoughts on these? im giong for 295 75 16 on the stock wheels. the tire man says i can go to 305 on the stock wheels.(the truck is leveled) i dont want to destroy my mpg so i thought i should only jump to 295 from the stock265.
what does everyone think my mpg will drop too?
thanks ive been out for awhile aND couldnt find the search function.
missed everyone.
You'll have to air them down a lot. I have them in 285 (load range D) on stock rims on my F250. At 50psi the outside edge barely touches the ground. Still has the mold bumps after 6000 miles. Have a bit of highway noise, but not too bad. Pull acceptably well in mud and turf (mine's a 4x2). I like them, but wouldn't go bigger on stock wheels or you'll have wear problems. I'll go back to 265's next time...
You bought an American made truck, and you're going to put jap tires on it? That's just as bad as the french owned BFG. Buy American, the job you are saving may very well be your own!
I have 285/75r16 ProComps and am happy with them on stock rims. Definitely no rubbing, lose maybe 1/2 mpg. Bought 4 for price of 3. Don't know if you have that deal where you're at though.

I have 315/75/16 Nitto T/Gs on an 03 V10 X with 6 inches lift and stock wheels. Sport is right about the PSI being lower to ensure the entire width is on the ground. A little more so with mine due the stock rim width. I have had no problems with my combo in 5000 miles and will buy them again. I am not a Procomp fan at all. I went with PCs on a Jeep from BFGs and then from the PC to pirelli scorpion. I will never roll a PC again. Even today, the BFGs are less money than the buy 3 get one free PCs. I lost on average .3-.5 MPG with the lift and tires. Stock tires lead to overstated MPG as the tires are just a bit smaller than the speedo is set for (more miles than actually travelled) where 285 are as close to accurate as you can get.

I guess some highly-skilled tire maker is sitting on the couch watching Jerry Springer right now because my truck has foreign Firestones on it. Before that it had foreign Generals. Before that, I bought Michelins for my truck. And my wife just bought Michelins (and for her Miata!, bad person) In my defense, I did have an F250 with Coopers on it, so somebody can thank me for a job I guess.
I think Firestone, Bridgestone, Michelin, BF Goodrich, General, Uniroyal, Yokohama, Continental, Dayton, Dunlop, Pirelli, Toyo & Armstrong are all foreign owned companies, which doesn't leave us much of a choice in tires with only Goodyear and Cooper left, really.
I generally agree we should buy American and support the American economy. I think all of us on this board are doing our part if we spend $40K on an American truck.
The original question was about mileage. The answer is: buy the smallest, most expensive Coopers you can find. That way you support the economy and we won't have to import as much oil from those awful foreigners.
i run 295/75's on my stock wheels, not a problem. i do not have any wear probs, except for the rear tires, which are bald in the middle, and bald on the outer edges
i got 27k out of em, and i do not rotate. stealership i have my oil changed at always bumps the rear tires to 65psi, and the fronts to 60 no matter how many times i tell em not to.... i run rr at 55 psi, and the front at 50, and my rancho 9000's at setting 1. ride is pretty good, cornering is great, but sucked real bad the first week they were on.
tires.com sells the 295's for 155 shipped, and no tax (depending on yer location).....and the 315/75's for 160..... i am putting on a set of 315's tomorrow, on my stock wheels. hopefully they will not be too bad of as buldge, and i am sure they will now rub slightly, although the 295's NEVER have.
make sure to rotate em, and keep the pressure set correctly, and i bet you can get 35-40k out of em, as long as you do not have a 6 litre anyway...........
I have the Nitto Terra Grapler A\Ts 297-75-16 I have these on 16x8 Eagles, they look great, makes the truck sit higher, little more noise then expected, picks up and throws rocks more then I would like. Looks great and handles great! Run mine at 62psi front and 40psi rear, these tires seem to like to bulge, this makes them bulge even, I don't have the heavy diesel though, would be maxed to 65psi front and 35 rear then. If I was going to put tires on stock wheels I would put the Yokohama 285s on them, there cheaper and a better tire, oh and the 295s are a 1\4in. taller then the 305s, but the 305s are a 1\4 wider then the 295s, so really no differnce at all, makes no sense I know...
ok there is a lot to think about. the 295 are taller but narrower then the 305? man i dont get it. what is it equivilent to in the other numbers? like 30x10.50.16 or 31x10.50x16 or other, those #'s i understand.
how much of a difference does it make in mpg from the stock 265 to the 295?
i gues the 295 would be better then the 305 on the stock rim since they are slightly narrower?
the tire man wants me to go to 315 or 305 cause they will look the best. he doesnt pay the fuel bill though. plus im sticking with the stock wheel.
The 315's or 305's are too wide for the stock wheel. Do yourself a favor - get the 285's or 295's. The Nitto's are all around better tires than BFG AT's - especially in wet road conditions.
You need to go to Nittos web-site, that's what I did before I got mine, all tires and manufacturers are differnt, I had the Yokohoma A\Ts on for about 5min. and they were taller then the 295 Nittos, looked better to.... And yes the 295s are 1\4in. wider then the 305s, the 305s are a 1\4in. taller, so if you were worried about the width and you were going with the nittos you would want the 305 vs the 295, not like you could ever actually ever tell the differnce, I have seen the 285 Nittos on a SD with stock wheels and it looked PERFECT, that is the route that I would go if I had stock wheels...
The mileage difference is very slight, less than .5 for me with 315s. The difference from 285 to 315 would be less. The V10 does not get much different MPG with a little more weight which is similar to bigger tires.
Spartan-Why did you say the 315s are to wide for the stock rims? Someone's recommendation? I have 315s (6000miles) on stock rims and would do it again.
i can tell ya, that extra inch the 315/75 has over the 295/75 is HUGE.
go look at my gallery... i have pics of both tires on stock wheels. the stock wheels are indeed TOO narrow for even the 295/75 nitto, but will work, just expect that an 8" wheel would be better. for 315's, i should be running a 10" wheel, but i have alot of other financial obligations....thus i run stockers
