Is there a vent for the tank? How to test?

I separated the pressure fuel line at the in line filter (on the tank side of the filter so the filter was out of the picture) and cranked the engine over for a few seconds. The fp ran (made a noise) but no gas came out. There's only about 4 to 5 feet of hose and it drops into the tank.

I must conclude that the 18 month old fuel pump has crapped out! Don't buy the low priced napa fuel pump. I'm trying the one that's about 25 bucks more & wish me luck

It's called a fuel vapor valve connected to the charcoal can. I'm replacing it.

It must also be a vent, how else does air get into the tank as fuel level goes down?

I think the filler cap is one way pressure release not air in??

I think it's the other way around. Filler cap has a one way valve to allow air in. The purpose of the evaporative emissions system (charcoal cannister and associated hoses and valves often abbreviated EVAP) is to prevent gas vapors in the tank from venting to the atmosphere. The EVAP system allows any pressure buildup (and associated gasoline vapors) to flow into the charcoal cannister and eventually into the intake to go through the normal combustion process.

Hi Mr. S.

I'm not positive on the direction of flow for the filler cap and the vent on top of the tank. Good topic for a new thread.

I did get this stinker finally fixed - it was the 18 month old piece of c#r%a^p fuel pump (NAPA's less expensive one - I know I should have known better. I hope this NAPA / Carter lasts longer

If it goes I guess I'll buy an oem.

For anyone else reading this thread here's a tip. If you hear the fuel pump make a noise and it's a kind of a weak 2 sec hum & then off - well that does NOT mean it's working. I know that now

Also you don't have to take the rear bumper off to drop the tank - you do need to drop the skid plate of course - 4 fasteners. Need to take the trim piece off between the body & bumper & you'll see two bolts there, other two at the front end of the skid plate.

Happy motoring
