Just take all the stuff off leaving the bare block and heads. The only thing you might have to do is to plug a hole in the end of the heads if a smog pump was used in it's past life.
get rid everything down to the bare engine, put 5 new vac hoses on, put on a duraspark 2 ignition, 4bbl carb and intake, new cam and go from stock to modified
Better yet, there's a company on the web that sells HEI style distributors(one wire) for Ford applications, both for streep and strip engines. If simplicity is what you desire, go this route!

vac canister, vac advance on dizzy, brake booster, soliniod between carb and carbon canister(if vac controlled), trans moderator (if c6)
theres also 1 or 2 lines off the carb i dont recall now
thats what i have on mine, there are more lines if you want any emissions stuff.
