I picked up a 85 f-150, with some wiper problems! The truck had recently been in an accident and T-boned some rice burner of a car in some random intersection. Anyways all the damage was replaced! And I just figured the motor just needed to be replaced. Replace it I did along with the switch. Still a no go! I get a fluxuation of power on the volt. meter every time the wiper motor is hooked up. Unhook the wires going to the wiper motor everything is fine! Any ideas anyone?
The Relay should be under the dash somewhere my 84 4WD F250 had delay wipers and the wiper delay box was bolted to the bottom of the dash my 2WD 84 F250 did not have delay wipers and i took the wiper delay box and switch out of an 84 bronco in the junk yard and its wiper relay box from factory was zip tied to the wirring harness coming in from the engine compartment in the upper right had side of the dash a real pan to get to good thign the bronco was a junk yard bronco because i broke the dash out in spots to get it out anyway your wiper relay could be in one of those spots
You said this was in an accident, I would be suspecting that the linkage on teh wipers could be tweeked and binding. They operate like two sciccors and if they got bent at all, they will bind and load the wiper motor down. I wold give them a good strong look and make sure everything is freely moving in there.
I would check the wiper delay box myself. I installed a delay setup from a 79 Bronco into my previous 69 F100 4x4, and it had delay problems. It ended up being a couple of broken soldering joints within the box itself. You can use a can of compressed air (for cleaning the inside of your pc, found at any pc store) by turning it upside-down, and shaking it, and allowing the liquid to come out. It will freeze the soldering joints, and thus expose the broken ones. It's like magna-flux for electrical connections. If you're steady of hand, and have fine joint soldering equipment.(requires a small tip for your gun or iron) and some radio/tv electrical solder, you can repair it easy enough. The box is located under the dash, and plugs into the switch directly.
You're going to have to get into your dash, and follow the wires from your wiper switch to the box. It'll be a black box, roughly 3"x3"x2" in shape, and is hooked directly to the switch. The easiest way to see it would be to pull the gauge cluster out first.
The wiper arms are not even connected at this time! I know where the relay box is located. I've spent many hours under the dash! I tottaly by-passed the relay box, all the plug are the same. From the wiring harness to the relay box, and from the box into the switch. I simply plugged the switch directly into the harness and am having the same problem!! Any other ideas??
