To the contrary, I believe that it does have an internal thermocouple that will cycle the power on and off once it has reached operating temperature.
These things aren't too much different than the water heaters that I had for my horse's water buckets.
But as others have said, no need to run the heater for more than the last three three hours before you get ready to drive away.
