Question Rear blocks?

I have a F-350 with the tall rear blocks, it also has the snowplow prep so the front end sits pretty high as well, the rear end is about a good 11\2 taller then the front. The thing is it's just to high for my gooseneck trailer, I was wondering if I could chop a inch or 11\2 off of the rear blocks to lower the rear a bit. Are these blocks solid or hollow? If they are solid I could cut the inch or so out of the bottom and then drill the dimple back in the bottom for the nipple. If they were hollow then I would probally be in trouble. The F-250 blocks are just to short for what I want, don't want the truck to look like it's higher in the front then the rear like all the other snow plow preped 250's. Has anyone ever done this and are the blocks solid? The front end leveling kits would make it to high and wouldn't help with the trailer situtation and the 250 blocks to low for my taiste. Thanks for all the help!!!

No.. I wouldn't go cutting into any blocks. They might be hollow, might not.. I can't remember. I think you would be better served to just buy some aftermarket blocks from a truck accessory store or something so you can be sure you are running a safe setup.

Besides, the blocks usually have some angle to the cut, not sure if the stockers do, but that is another possible thing that could get screwed up.

Better safe than sorry IMHO

good luck.

I am capable of making the block more then safe if it is solid, these blocks do not have any angle on them like some of the others do. I could make the cuts perfectly straight and would replace the demple so the axle would still be super snug with the block. Any more help?

To short, I could swap a friend, but again there just to short, I was thinking a 11\4 and there 2inches shorter, I know that 3\4 of a inch doesn't sound like a lot, but when you look at the truck it does. I think the 350 blocks are 33\4 and the 250s are 13\4, making the 350s 2 inches taller?!

you could always cut one in half to see if it is solid. If not, just buy replacements.

I dunno, seems to me the best option would be to go with the 250 blocks and then add a leaf to gain back some height. Also with the add a leaf at least when that trailer goes on there, the back end won't drop any/as much. Gonna look kinda funny with that tall front end and your leveled rear sagging under the pin weight. Is it me, or are the overload springs on these trucks set far to low from the stops to be worthwhile? Seems like the truck would need to drop almost 3 inches before they engage - your already sagging the back end at that point, so whats the point? Is there a way to make them engage earlier?

I still say the best is to buy an aftermarket one that is the correct height.

As I said in my first post, better safe than sorry!

I just replaced my 2" F250 blocks with 4" F350 blocks a few months ago. They are both hollow and I would not recommend modifying them. I think you can get solid blocks from SDHQ. I would feel safer cutting the solid ones if needed.

Well good to know that there hollow, guess I won't try anything then, guess I was just thinking quick and easy, Axis you have the right idea, and yes the rear drops four inches before the overloads tuch, by then there not even doing anything, the rear is way to soft, the auto makers try so hard to please all these people that buy these things and want a car ride that you can't even get a stiff\strong leaf pack anymore, remember the old chevy trucks, they looked like they had 15 leafs under them...

I don't know what you're talking about, my snowplow prepped 250 with 2" rear blocks sits level w/o the plow. And only drops about 1/2" with plow raised.....

I have never seen a 250 with snow plow prep sit level, the front is always higher then the rear, looks like the rear is loaded or something.

What if you used an airbag system that replaced the leaf springs? I'm not talking about an airbag system that is mounted on the leaf springs, but one that completely replaces them. You should be able to lower the ride height that way and keep front and back level.

if you don't want to buy some new ones, just make some out of billet to the correct height, wouldn't take much, especially with no angles.
