engine clatter

OK guys is this normal? When going uphill and not giving enough throttle the truck starts to shimmy and splutter. I never experienced this with my Silverado. 5.4 liter 'o4 supercrew 1300 miles. What do you think. Should I just give it more throttle or is something wrong here.
