Just received my generator back from the rebuilder along with a new Voltage regulator. He set the voltage regulator to 7.3 volts and said that it was properly polorized for the Positive Ground system. Well the needle on the guage goes to the left of center when charging and to the right of center when discharging. Has anyone seen this and if so, how do I straighten it out? Thanks - Also I put a couple of new pictures in my gallery.
It is my understanding they have to be polarized on the vehicle with all connections made. Before you try anything else, remove the field wire from the regulator and briefly touch it to the batt connection of the regulator. This should polarize the gennie.
However, if it doesn't change anything, is it possible someone had the truck hooked up for negative ground? If so, remove the hot lead that goes thru the ammeter loop and is connected to the breaker bar. Route it thru the ammeter loop in the opposite direction and hook back to the breaker. Should read properly now.
Thanks for your input. It was the direction that I had put the wire on the back of the guage. When I installed the new wiring harness, I just ran the wire the way it looked reasonable. So now all the guages are working. Also I registered the truck yesterday. Just about a year since I bought it.
