460 bearings

has anyone here been able to successfully install new bearings in a 70s model f150 w/ a 460 in the truck? i cant tell if i could get the pan out by jacking the motor up. i have done it in a 302 truck but not a 460. i have about 70 psi idleing when its cold but after it warms up its around 10-12 psi (20-25 psi at 2000 rpm) i know these motors didnt have really high pressure in these years but i think mine might be to low. its doesnt knock though. any thoughts would be great. i am planning a complete overhaul soon, but i need to drive it now, especially for winter. is the pressure something to worry about or is this normal with 115000 miles?

I would leave it alone for now. Somebody may have a spec on presure but for your milage it don't sound to bad. as long as it has presure it should be alright until rebuild.
Other opinions?

70 psi at an idle sounds like too much unless your cold idle speed is set at 3000 rpm or so. What weight oil are you running? The stock by pass is set at 45-55 pounds so you should never see more than that. Mine is set at 45 pounds and that is what my pressure is at 3000 rpm hot. At idle speed, it will go down to 12-15 pounds depending on how low I set the idle. If I keep my idle around 800 rpm it stays at 25 pounds. I run Mobil-1 10-30.

my idle is around 750-800 and i use 10-40 oil. i have been changing the oil every 500 miles and i add a cup of trans fluid to it, cuz its been sitting since 1994. its helped the sludge and the oil pressure. i do have a true reader gauge and in the morning its 70 psi until it warms up a little then it slowly drops off. thats at 750 rpms when its cold also.

i have a high volume standard pressure mellings pump in my 514. it to read 70-75 psi idle cold. after warming up it sits around 45-50 in gear idling 30-35, towing is 50psi rock solid. this is normal, this is why oil pressure tests are always taken cold. i run 15/40, oil never has the smell of burnt i found with 10/40. oil temp also runs around 205-215 towing my fifth wheel. with the valvoline 10/40 it was around 225-250, depending on the rate of hill i was climbing. i also run a larger than stock remote filter with a monster cooler..
