ok i put a rear sump can in my 460 and it didn't come with a dip stick.. so i took the dip stick out of my 351W and put it in there, it bolted up just fine... but is it gonna work? it fit perfectly but will the readings be right? also how much oil do these beasts take stock? and how much fluid will i need to fill my tranny? and does it share fliud with the transfer case? the case is a borg warner unit out of a 85 bronco. and i just want every thing to be "up to snuff" when im ready to hit the key and go
well, out of all of that i can help on the dipstick thing. if you put the dipstick in, find out how much oil the truck needs. say it needs 5 quarts(just and example). put 4 quarts in and let it settle out, pull the dipstick out and see what is says. if it reads a quart low cool, if not, make your own marks with a scribe or something that is permanent. then add the last quart. if it goes up to the safe zone on the stick, cool, if not, repeat the above procedure. that should work pretty good for ya.
6 is correct for a fl1a but some people use the smaller filter(???). fl1a is the same as a ph8a or 1515 wix. fill it with 6 qts. runn it to fill the filter. waith a few minutes, and check. if you dont prefill the filter(by running or manual filling it) before checking it, you are likely to overfill it by one qt. every time.
