Flowmaster on a Ranger

I know that typically, people run Flowmaster exhaust on V8 powered trucks. Those sound awesome. But has anyone here put Flowmaster exhaust and dual pipes on a 99 4.0 Ranger? How does THAT sound? Just curious...I'm considering trying it...

Post Flowmaster on a Ranger

I had Midas install a dual outlet Flowmaster on my "01" 4-liter so I had dual pipes coming out of the rear. It was the popular FLowmaster model that everyone sings praises for. I paid decent money for it and didn't like it because it was too quiet. So, later when I saved up a few more dollars, I measured the space consummed by the muffler and then went to another shop and bought a "Y' pipe adapter and some flared tube of the proper size. Then I hacksawed the Flowmaster out, trashed it and replaced it with the "Y" pipe and flared tubes. Atached it with muffler clamps (the Flowmaster was welded in). It sounds great. At idle or at a fixed speed with no acceleration, it sounds nice and mellow just as a "V" configured engine should sound. Punch the accelerator and you'll know that you have something under the hood. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "These small V6 engines don't need a muffler(s)".
Since then I've talked to a few muffler shop people around here (the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul) and learned that typically small V6's are being configured with no mufflers.
Have a good day and enjoy the ride.

I have a Flowmaster 40, single in, dual out, cat back exhaust. I really like it as it doesnt sound like a Un-corked Yamaha heading down the road. I picked up about 2-3mpg extra. at 65 mph you can't even tell its on, but at low rpms it sound great.

As far as not having any muffler on, I'd say that's probably not a hot idea unless you want a lot of noise violation tickets. Even with the Flowmaster 40, you have to be real care full not to really get on the gas, That's right I got pulled over for excessive noise with my flowmaster on, I suppose doing 50mph in 2nd had something to do with it....

Good Luck!

super

P.S. check out my gallery, it shows what kind of exit I have.

So you're saying the 40 series Flowmaster with duals out the back sounds pretty tough?? My brother has an S10 with the 4.3 and he's got Flowmaster of some sort on his truck, and it sounds like a lawn mower. I know my truck won't sound like a V8 because it's not a V8, but I just hope to make it sound a little meaner. The stock setup sounds wimpy. Thanks!
