My ranger has a 302HO out of a 1969 Mustang. Here is what is all on it. Hedman shorty headers, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, Holly 750cfm double pumper, and 14"x3" K&N round filter with Summit Racing flow through air lid. At any time I give it any gas there is a hesitation. If the throttle is in a steady position there is no hesitation. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Well I'm not familar with your particular carb. but it sounds like a misadjusted accelerator pump arm, or a worn pump, both of which are giving a lean squirt of fuel, when you crack the throttle.
Most carbs. have an adjustment notch on the accelerator pump arm, that will allow you adjust the pump arm travel for a longer, or shorter stroke, to give more or less of a fuel squirt, when you open the throttle.
If it's always had the hesitation, I'd guess it was set with the stroke too short, thus giving a lean squirt.
If it slowly began over time I'd guess the accelerator pump is getting weak from wear & giving a weak squirt of fuel.
So in the short run, you may be able to get around it, by adjusting the pump arm to get more/longer piston travel, thus more fuel squirted on each throttle opening.
In the long run, you'll likely have to rebuild the carbs accelerator pump.
If you don't have a setup or repair manual for this carb, try your local library in the automotive section, bet you'll find something there on carbs with pictures that'll help you locate & adjust the accelerator pump arm, or overhaul the pump if needed. pawpaw
