Any heads that were devloped for the FE's stemmed from research on the various 427 heads. If you really want the scoop on those heads go to the Ford FE big block forum on Network54, there's a guy there by the name of Dave Shoe that probably knows more about these things than anyone else alive today. By the mid to late 60's all Ford's focus on the FE's was on the 427's and 428's, not the 390's. The GT390 was just a cheap ( low cost) engine package for the Stangs and Fairlanes.
