I have worked out that when I have finished building my 351 Cleveland, it should put out somewhere between 380 and 450 Flywheel Hp (depending on various things). I have heard that the transmission and diff chew up a fair bit of this power so what acutally hits the ground is quite a bit less. I have currently got a:
BORG WARNER gearbox,
10" single plate clutch,
2.92:1 BORG WARNER diff.
I want to go to:
Ford TOPLOADER 4 speed,
9.5" twin plate clutch,
9" FORD Limited Slip diff.
Can anyone tell me how much HP these drivetrains will use up?
As a general rule of thumb there is between a 17% and a 20% horespower loss from flywheel horsepower to rear-wheel horsepower. I don't know about your specific drivetrain, and to be honest I can't think of anyone that would, tough question. Good luck.
