I have a 90 F250 with a 302, manual 4x4.
When I startup the truck after its been sitting a while, it revs up and then shuts off. I turn it over again and it revs up and shuts off. I am able to feather the pedal to keep it going until its warm. After I beleive its warmed up, it still surges, it just doesnt die.
Being that its efi and not carbed, I dont know what it could be. Is there something like an electric choke for efi's???
What could it be??
Sounds like the IAC Idle Air Control unit is acting up. This is what sets the idle air, so if it is coked up it will do the hunting idle deal. There is an excellant post here about, Beating The Idle Topic Like A Dead Horse!, that has a wealth of info.
Quick deal is remove the IAC, clean it and clean the throttle bore(s) with throttle body cleaner. This will help.
Good luck!
