I believe that I've read that they all have the block heater installed, just not the power cord. You've got to buy the adaptor cord in order to plug it in.
I'm sure someone will chime in to confirm shortly.
On the '05 the block heater is already installed. All you need is the cord which is $24.00 dealer cost. There are instructions on this website on where the heater is in the block and how to connect the cord. If I remember right it is by the starter.
Yes above the starter...
may be covered by a dust cover, but it is a D shaped 3 prong receptacle/plug....
understand the cords are going for $24 to $35...
Thanks to all of you. I was hoping that was the case. This web site is great. Thanks to all for the input. I'll keep you posted on my long term comparo. Been a Bowtie guy for 36 years until this truck. Eating lots of crow from friends and kin.
Bowtie, you'll not regret your decision. I think you will find that the SD 6.0 is a fine puller or commuter or a combination of both. Had mine for just under 5,000 miles with no problems and getting 18 mpg empty on highway and 14 in town. Hope to get a bump up in mpg when I do first oil change ang go with synthetic. Welcome to the site!
4mrbowtie... Bet you are hearing from the family!!!!
Welcome to the "dark side" ...
now we can help you prove it's faster, and stronger, and jumps higher
Faster - power brake at start in 4x4 to get the rpms up to about 1800 and then floor it and let off !
Stronger - tow a LARGE trailer up the same hill they have to crawl up - but do it @ 75
Jump higher - well --- that just depends on the size of your cajones

Now, if you can't find your block heater, there is a glue on mat that can be placed on the back of your oil pan that will do the same...
some of the Alaska dudes and dudettes use that for supplemental heating...
get a remote starter - second best money I ever put into the X - and ALL my vehicles will have it in the future !
Best money ?
a Diablo Predator from the Parts Shop in the upper right corner of your window !!
they're having a $50 instant rebate for next day air...
you'll be grinnin when you feel how this changes your trucks performance AND MPG !!!!
Are you guys sure you don't simply need a regular old extension cord?
With ground prong. I doubt you'd need more than a 14 or 12 gauge. I remember pulling the block heater cord plug when I first bought it--to make sure it WAS there-- and I'm pretty sure it's just a regular cord.

Curious, but are you still running your break-in oil at 5,000miles? If that's the case it would be a "really" good idea to change that before you drive it anymore. Since most factory oil filters filter bewteen 15 and 50 micron sized particulates, and the fact that a lot of the break in metal is somewhere between 5-20microns in size, just means you are running all that metal through your engine and up and down the cylinder walls . Glad to hear you will be using synthetic though. But if you have the time today you really should change that.
I found the adaptor yesterday. It IS on the passenger side right above the starter. Appears to be sitting in what was formerly a freeze plug location. Would make sense. I called the dealer and inquired about the cord, he said it was $65. Hopefully I'll be able to get down there and pick it up tomorrow. Thnaks again for all the help guys.
I'd call around and then tell him you found it for the $25 to $35 that most are paying !
It is, after all, just a short extension cord

And while you're at it...
run by your boat supply house and get a Marinco Marine socket....
install it on the bottom facia like some have and have a convenient place to plug in....
and remember to run your cord over your drivers side mirror so u don't pull off without unplugging
UNLESS, you want to get one of those auto ejection ones used on ambulances, etc.... then it starts to get WAY COOL

I just had my cord installed Saturday. The cord was $63 and the dealer charged $40 for the install. I had them do it at the same time I did my 1st service. So all told I was at the dealership about 1 hour and had everything done.
