Are you guys sure you don't simply need a regular old extension cord?
With ground prong. I doubt you'd need more than a 14 or 12 gauge. I remember pulling the block heater cord plug when I first bought it--to make sure it WAS there-- and I'm pretty sure it's just a regular cord.
It is a screw on connector with 2 round prongs, so no a regular extension cord won't work. The ground is most likely made through the threaded portion of the connection.
First time on this site. I just got my O5 in nothern va and no block heater...My dealership is terrible. They didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I mentioned a block heater.
I will get the cord and try to get this installed. Thanks

When you get the cord have a drill handy. When they put mine in they found that there were no predrilled holes for the cord hangers.
Trying to figure out your location. Does that read that you're now in NC but will soon be in Montana? In that case I guess you really will be needing that block heater to work

Daryl,
Yes, unfortunately for us we are in NC. We moved here from MT thinking we might enjoy the heat and the amenities. What we realized when we arrived was that all the research did no good as they didn't tell the whole story. TRAFFIC,overcrowding at the schools, really rude people for the most part, and a lot more crime met us head on. So, we figure oh well, leasons learned and off we go back to big sky country. Yes, it is winter there for a Looooong time, and it gets very very cold but we can leave our house unlocked and our vehicle running in the grocery store parking lot and my son can go where he wishes without much worry of problems. That block heater is a must there. I forgot to plug it in once and when I went to start it it turned over like someone was holding onto the crank with both hands to stop it. But like a good truck she started (albeit unhappy) and it just took longer to warm her up. Now all I have to do is sell this dang house.

My dealer isn't terrible, but I know what you mean by not having a clue. After I purchased mine and noticed it wasn't there I e-mailed my salesman about it and forwarded the bulliten (posted elseware on this site) about the cord not being standard. They scratched their head, said they would order me one and would check the next diesel that arrived. Got an e-mail a few days later from my salesperson telling me that, yep sure enough the next diesel in didn't have it either.
The best part of this story is that I received an e-mail from the salesman earlier this week (I wish I still had it so I could post it). He said that someone just purchased a F250 diesel and spent 5 minutes with a different salesman crawling around under the front of the truck looking for the cord. After watching them for this time my salesman didn't have the heart to let it continue and went out and told them about the change and the bulliten. My salesperson also told me that he just shook his head since he had warned all of the other salespeople about this change!
LOL....I guess they moved it from the front grill to the passenger side.
I am not just saying that the dealership is terrible....when I took delivery of the truck for example...I came out of finance and some guy just handed me my keys. My salesman was nowhere to be found. He still hasn't called me back after leaving him 4 messages over two weeks.
There was no owners manual and no one went over anything on the truck with me. It was by far the worst experience I have ever had buying a vehicle.

Hmmm....I guess my truck came with the cord already installed. It's definitely a normal 3 prong plug. Not complaining, mind you. Just curious, since I heard that the cord was only installed on trucks in "cold weather" states. I'm on the left coast, in San Jose, CA.
Seems like that might be a nice aftermarket business for somebody. The cords are probably a standard plug on both ends, just not a common one on the 6.0 side.
$63 is mighty darn high that's for sure. The shop labor while high in terms of $$$ probably isn't out of line for the 20 minutes or so that it takes to install the cord.
