Has anyone in here bought tires from them before? I'm looking for a cheap set of winter tires and $42.49 per Mud tire doesn't seem too bad compared to about $90-100 Brand new. I know what everyone says, "...you get what you pay for". These tires are only going to be used when it's nasty outside on my '90 Ranger XLT 4x4 automatic. I just moved into a house on what's got to be a 30-degrees hill. Funny thing is there's a hospital up here too about a block away. I have no idea how the 7000-9000 lb. ambulances get up and down the hill during the winter. I'll find out soon. Any ideas? Anyone use High_Tec Retreading in Edgemont, SD?
Never used High-Tec but I have used Butler Retreads and can vouch for their quality and longevity. Retread tires have come a long way in the last couple of decades.
Retreaders are generally area specific. Butler services GA and I now see you are in MA. A little too far to go for a set of retreads. Fortunately I surfed around and found this, which may be a little closer. Click their location link and see if they are close enough. They say they keep a good inventory of retreads and it looks like they have several locations.
I used to use retreads many years ago. They never gave me any problems except they never seemed to last for more then 10,000 miles. This was in pre-radial days.
i've run cooper retreads for years, and they are some of the best snow tires out there. they still don't last as long as new tires, but the softer compound seems to work even better on ice...
as for the ambulances, they get around pretty good, have new tires twice a year, and may have on-spot chains like we run on our fire truck. just push a button, and you have a set of chains under your tires....
My only concern about retreads is whether I end up with matching casings. I certainly want identical tires on an axle, particularly a drive axle. If you get casings from various makers, the sizes will vary slightly. If you get your own casings retreaded, you know what you have.
Many years ago, I had a set of Pirelli CN36 tires Bandag retreaded. They wore forever; I finally gave them away. But they were not exactly round. Balanced carefully, I still couldn't get the bounce out of them. It only mattered on a performance car; I don't think they were bad enough to be any trouble on a pickup truck.
And, as has been observed, retreads have improved a lot.
I, too, am very interested in the Green Diamond tires.
for what it is worth a contractor I haul material for swears by HI-Tech retreads, they are on virtually all of his company pick ups but not on anything that will carry a load or tows alot (just his own paranoia, I see his crew abuse the heck out of all his trucks). He said HItech puts alot of effort into getting perfect casings and computer X-raying them and everything before capping them. He swears no blowouts or lost caps.

Thanks for the information. I got screwed out of money buying parts on Ebay a few months ago. I'm a little gunshy about spending money on-line. Don't fall for the "...it got lost in the mail. I'll send you a fully refund when the USPS sends me a check." I learned Ebay and Paypal won't help you after 30 days. Reporting it to the FBI internet fraud division does nothing also.
Wow, sorry to hear it, NitrousAl. Unfortunately, phone orders and internet orders do not enjoy the same legal protections as mail orders. Now if a seller promised you something via the mail, well.... NOBODY wants to mess with the Postal Police. Using the U.S. Mail to defraud is a BIGtime offense.
I'll keep my eye on those retreads, and on Green Diamond. Looks like I'll make it through this winter with the used Les Schwab TXR's, and the Michelins on the Suburban. Maybe next season, I'll try Green Diamonds on a truck.
