the check engine light won't go off.
OBD-II codes say "fuel too lean on banks one and two"
truck has 168,000 miles so i expect stuff to break, like that stupid airbag cutoff switch ($65). but i don't know what on earth to do about that. not like the old days when you just take a screwdriver to the carb.
I have the same `99, 3.0 FFV - and I couldn't give you a clue (though it sounds like, and forgive me, I'm just on my FIRST cup of coffee - fuel inject. issue) you might try to track down Ken00 or check over in the "Fuel" forum - good luck . . .
When was the last time you replaced the O2 Sensors.
That sounds like a classic problem. I think you are susposed to replace them like every 60000 miles anyway.
If you have a vacuum leak it might be doing wierd crap like that too... unmetered air is bad...
Check the MAF...i had the same problem..same codes..truck lacked power..unplugged the MAF..and purrs like a kitten..I have read that when the ECU reports error of both banks running lean..it is rarely the 02 sensors (since you would need multiple simultaneous failures)..anyway..MAF for me..good luck!!
DPFE (differential-pressure-feedback\sensor) is very common - do you tend to fill fuel more than a gallon or so past the pump clicking (cutting\shutting) off automatically? I did, and a mechanic told me that could cause it - fumes backing up from the charcoal-canister (from over-pressurizing the fuel tank\system)cause corrosion at the hose-sensor connection - at least that is my recall of the explanation.
It "appears" to be an easy fix (location very accessible) and cost "around" $60.
Mine occurred at around 40-45,000 miles, comes back as an "EGR"-related prob. but was told and have read that that is very often the case\cause (root) of the prob.
Best to have it properly tested\checked though before buying and changing parts if possible.
Also there have been TSB's on this - so maybe Ford ought to eat a portion of this cost\expense.
I would be a little surprised that both O2s would go at the same time. Look for vacuum leaks, dirty MAF, exhaust leaks and dirty fuel filter/low fuel pressure. If you would like the pinpoint tests send me an email and remind me of the code numbers.
hey ken00, 33,000 miles huh, that is when mine went on, and it wont shut off, going to check it out this weekend to see what could be the problem. let us know if you figure out what is wrong with it.

That was a quote from your post and I responded below.
