I took off the MAF and throttle body and cleaned them today. The throttle body was the dirtiest one I've seen in awhile. It didn't take much cleaner to clean the MAF, but it took the rest of the can to clean the TB. My question is should I take off the neck that the TB attatches to and clean it up as well? I intend on geting another can and going over the TB again anyway because of how gunky it was. I was looking at my Haynes manual and found this excerpt kind of amusing
"The throttle body is coated with a sludge resistant material designed to protect the bore and throttle plate. Do not attempt to clean the interior of the throttle body. The throttle body is designed to resist sludge accumilation and cleaning may impair the performance of the engine."
I'd hate to see what their TB looks like mine was pretty nasty by my standards, but then again I may just be to picky because I'm used to cleaning up mine and my father-in-law's cars for shows.

by all means screw what haynes says sorry for replying so late but my truck was having same problem but dont scrub hard or anything with a brush spray out with TB cleaner and then compressed air maybe shop vac or pat dry but i would suggest actually taking the whole thing off for best cleaning results
I always took mine off with the elbow attached. I cleaned it about every 50 K . It would gunk up & start idling rough. I used Sea Foam deep creep , a old tooth brush & a small round brush from my gun cleaning to clear the ports. I had a BBK 80 mm on my old truck. I still have the stock one if anyone needs one. $40 plus shipping. It has less than 50k on it.
