I've been reading this forum trying to solve my issue.
On 4/18/08 - My Check Engine Light came on - So I stopped at AutoZone and had them to pull the codes.
I'm receiving 171 and 174 on my 2002 F150 5.4 Supercrew. Autozone said I needed to replace my MAF but after reading the forum I went the less expensive route.
1. Replaced PCV - Bought part from Ford.
2. Cleaned my K&N filter
3. Cleaned the MAF
Took the truck back to Autozone and ask them to clear the codes (They no longer do clearings but the guy did it when we got outside.)
The Check Engine light stayed off for about 1 hour. Then it came back on and has been on every since.
The autozone guy has put fear in me because he said if I don't get this fix I can mess up my pistons due to over heating (THe engine isn't running hot).
What else do I do?
Specifics
2002 F150 5.4
Mods
K&G Air filter
New exhaust - 3 inch pipe (Change dual to single)
I went ahead and paid a shop to find the leak - It was the 90 degree elbow
Questions
1. None of the local dealerships in Kansas City Area have the PCV Hose Assem in stock.
Any other sources for the part? Is the part used in another vehicle and can try searching under.
2. Anyone know of a posting that shows how to replace the 90 elbow. The shop says you can see it. How can I get to it myself.
My PCV valve elbows were bad and i just replaced them with normal vacuum line and hose clamps...its not pretty, but it works good.
If you dont want to go that route, call NAPA they might have something that could work.
