Only if it's baked in a cast iron skillet, with shortening, moist and chewy...with sweet milk, pinto beans, chili, wilderness stew.
Of course when your down in the deep woods - hotwater cornbread is good.

Ol' Batchelor cornbread reciepe
Grease your skilet and stick it in the oven while it's preheating to 425*F
2 cups self-rising corn meal
1 egg (slightly beaten)
2 tablespoons lard (or 1/3 cup oil)
1 1/4-1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Mix this up, a little lumpy is OK...
Pour into the hot skilet, bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
Let cool for 5-10 min. before removing it from the skilet.
Eat 1/2 for dinner, save the remainder for "Confederate Ice Cream" before bed.... Crush up the bread in a tall iced tea glass, fill with sweet milk...Eat with an iced tea spoon.
