multi carb linkage setup

multi carb linkage setup
Anybody running a multi carb setup with the old Holly two barrel that can send some pictures of the linkage?
I'm setting up a 2x2 setup on my 54 and wanted to see the setups so I can decide on a hard linkage or try a vaccume (progressive) type setup.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks, ed

I've got a picture of my linkage... it is progressive linkage on 3 Holley 2 barrels... don't think it would help with your 2 x2. Also don't understand the vacuum setup question.
Progressive linkage is where your primary carb is linked normally and the secondary carb is engaged by a sliding hardpoint that begins to open the throttle plate at a designated point. In other words, when your primary is opened past , say, 60%, the secondary is opening dumping more fuel and air into the mix.
progressively, himmelberg.

What brand intake is the 2x2 ?? Dual carbs are usually hard linked and function as a pair at all times. Converting to progressive can be done with some creative work but you also get into a flow problem as the manifolds are not designed for that.
Is this for that 239 you have been playing with?

Hey 286Merc,
Yep, its for the old 239 I'm tinkering on. The intake is actually my stock 2 barrel, what I found was a reproduction y-adaptor (Vintage-Speed is reprod. the "Almquist" brand). I have also done more digging and found that the two carbs would throttle in tandum like you say. A friend had offered up the "progressive" term from his experience with dual 4 barrels where the first would somehow control the second with vaccume.
And I agree that my old Holley wont create anywhere near that kind of pull.
I bought a 55 intake , Holly carb and stock linkage for $15 and figured in the worst case it would be used for backup parts.
I'm not looking for race track performance, just a strong running-cool looking setup that is a little different than the norm. When I rebuilt the motor I would like to bring it back up a little different....electronic ignition, carb setup...etc, just a little stronger. It gives me an excuse to be in the garage !!!

Those Y adapters are making a comeback but they didnt work very good even when new.
Why not just use a 256 4bbl intake and mount a WCFB or 4G carb??
Or for something crazy get an old racing tunnel ram and hollow it out and place over the stock setup. Then put a honking big Holley on top, dummied up with the insides opened up!! Thats something Fenders would probably do.
GO RED SOX!

Please do not consider this an attempt to hijack your thread. I have no info to provide, but have similar questions to yours and hope I can learn something from future responses. Can anyone suggest a good manual or book to set up multiple carbs? Has anyone tried a vacumn setup on the end carbs? I recently bought a 29 Ford with a nailhead Buick engine with 6 Holley 94s on a log mainfold. Information on setting these old units up is hard to find. Any help will be appreciated.

About the only way to set carbs up is with a Unisyn & vacuum gauge. It also helps to have a friend with an exhaust gas analyzer in his shop.
As far as that nailhead (any displacement) that is way too many carbs for the street. Id dummy up the 4 outer ones.
I had a 394 Olds with Offy log and 6 97's some years ago. I had to dummy the ends for the street and open for the strip.
