I just bought a reman'd 390 with rv cam. Just wondering what intake and carb setup should I go with? I don't want to use the stock setup; however I do need something that is direct fit and will hook up to throttle linkage with minimal to no changes. It is going in my 68' F100 automatic.
If your new motor has the oem intake manifold alignment pin it will have to be removed if installing an after market intake manifold. But not all FE's blocks had this locating pin. Top right of where the intake sits front sealing wall..

I am a Holley fan. I suggest Holley list numbers 1850-2,1850-3,1850-4,1850-5,or 1850-6. All have cable choke as does your 68 rig. A/T linkage. And a fuel inlet close to your existing Autolite 2V. I picked these list numbers also because their calibration should be right where a 390 with a mild cam would want. Except I would also get a Holley part number 20-59 secondary spring Quick Change cover kit and part number 20-13 spring kit. The 1850's I noted above come with a plain color coded spring. Depending on your engine's compression ratio, altitude, etc your 390 will prolly be best with either the yellow or purple spring. Whichever one gives you the quickest acceleration without any bog.
Note: There are 2 series of Eddy carbs. One based off the old Carter AFB and the other based off the old Carter AVS. Eddy calibrates one of them on the rich side and the other too lean for your 390. Research which one is more rich if you're going with an Eddy carb. I don't remember which one is which since I've never cared for Carters.
