Got an airbrush.

Here's what I got for my birthday.

Airbrush, good masking tape and a can of the following paints:

99 Mustang Chrome Yeller
96 Mustang Tangerine
Viper Red
Bright White

Note I received no art lessons, digital PICs coming soon, please pray for my truck.

Hmmm.... do I smell flame job on somebody's red truck? I offered to put some tasteful pewter ghost flames on Mrs. H's new white pickup so that she could distinguish her truck from the thousands of white pickups running around in the desert. She turned that idea down with an emphatic NO.

And I've had an airbrush for years.

tinged green with envy. himmelberg

Cool I have been trying to convince myself I need an airbrush. The Mrs. says "buy it".

"Hmmm.... do I smell flame job on somebody's red truck?"

Peter

Indeed. But just on the hood and front fenders. I don't want to have to repair the flames everytime I take off a door or rear fender and chip the paint like I always do. I've always liked flames, and a trip to Pigeon Forge was all I needed, to learn I had built a vanilla red truck that needs a facelift. The number of clone Effies was discouraging. There are only a few around here, so I didn't know. You will also notice strategic placement of a flame lick concealing the fact my hood and new fenders differ about 2 shades. Red is tough to match.

As you can tell from the colors, I continue to lack imagination. Unable to envision how lime green and mauve flames might look on a red truck. I'll stay somewhat traditional. Not to mention Purple55 will dog me without mercy if I use any feminine colors.

Friend at work told me to just grab some tape and go for it. So I immediately proceeded to spend three hours making a pattern so both sides perfectly matched. Stuck it on the truck, saw the futility and wadded up the pattern and grabbed the tape. Very tedious for a no talent like me, but I think they look decent. Spent at least 6 hours masking the truck. (Of course I haven't painted them yet, paint store gave me the wrong activator for the urethane. Oh, that would have been a mess had I not noticed. And I've seen my wife do enough Christmas crafts to know she can help me with the shading and blending if needed.

And I see we have a new Iowegian on the board. Never enough of those around here. Welcome to the forum.

'fenders , Happy birthday

Kenny,

I'm anxious to see the pics. Are you going to have a pro do the pin- striping afterwards? I'm glad you are finally setting your truck aside from the other red effies..... Who knows, maybe you can do some naked women next on the side of the bronco..... Best of luck, -4speed

We'll have to see how it comes out before I spring for Pro pinstriping to finish it off. I will be buying 60 foot of Auto Zone pinstripes if things don't go well. And naked ladies on the Bronco. What was your other idea?

GW

I won't be painting any Elvis murals on Penn Dick's 78 Econoline van, but I have used cheapo airbrushes before. It's not at all hard to get your moneys worth. You can turn the paint flow down so low you can't hardly screw up. Great for filling in chips and such. Himmel can comment in more detail I'm sure. Half decent brushes aren't much over 50 bucks. The Harbor freight 15 dollar special will melt when you put auto paint in it.

John

I'm sending my sister down tomorrow to discuss politics with you. Cage match. Two out of three falls. You'll have a JK sign in your front yard by sundown.

Happy Birthday fenders. I'm not sure what the folks in your area say about it but I was told to mix the paint thinner than normal when using the brush. When I first used mine I mixed as per instructions and it came out in a lacey texture. Thats okay if you like that look and it might go well with those mauve tones real well too. Good luck.
