i got a 359ft block
Hey DT, I understand on the IH trucks, your frequency of use makes perfect sense to me. The c50, on the other hand, is a bit shady. I would compare the F600 loosely to a c60, although I will say the Ford is better to appease the chebby haters.
The 6-71 would be cool to run. I drove a C60 with a Detroit of some kind in it, the tach went to 4000, and that’s where it ran 55mph in top gear. I didn't think it was right, but it was drove like that for years. Maybe the tach was hokey. It had an Allison auto with a School bus looking shifter with no park. It had a 2-speed rear. We never split shifted it; we only used Lo off road. It wasn’t the “red button” 2 speed, but a switch that looked like a traction divider. Cool, but I was happy to get my F-350 back.

As for combines, I live very rural, and I see combines, tractors with duals, giant discs, Amish, you name it, on a daily basis. I even saw a John Deere pulling one of those orange gravity wagons rear end and total a Grand Am while I was in the bank drive-thru. Overloaded? Probably not any more or less than anyone else, He just had an unfortunate accident. He and his Dalmatian were fine, although the edge of the front tire rolled the Dalmatian after the impact. The tractor didn’t stop for a few feet after the impact. The doors on the car wouldn’t open, so the Utica Fire Dept had to get the girl out. She was shaken up, but ok. Sorry for the tangent.

Uhaul trucks of this size and vintage aren’t anything special like a lot of the newer stuff. No Lo-Pros, autos or air. They did put in a foot pump windshield washer, though. I actually think they had businesses in mind for the big ones, given the dock height deck.

I agree and disagree on the split rims. RUSTY split rims are dangerous and suck. Otherwise they just suck. I don’t think I have a lot of options, given the huge brake drums, Big 6 pattern (I think), etc. Honestly, I don’t know if it has them or not. I think the tires are tubeless; but that doesn’t mean they don’t have tubes in them. Splits are tube type, right? I’ll have to look at the wheels in the morning. I wish I could put 16” or even 19.5” on it. They would handle all I would ever want to haul. That would lower the deck height, although I’d be even lower geared. I agree on getting rid of them in theory, I just think it would cost a fortune. If it ever needs tires, I will look into something different. If the mileage actually is 3-4, I may get rid of the truck along with the rims.

As for GVWR vs. GCWR, I am still scared to death of 40-50K. Especially sense last time I checked, hay wagons didn’t have brakes on them. I’m not saying it can’t be done, or even done safely, I’m just saying I’m not the one to do it. Maybe if I built up to it over time.

In Ohio, there used to be farm tags, and was the same rule. A farmer could roll an 18-wheeler with a normal operators license. I don’t know if it is still around or not.

Sorry for the novel. Later Man!

i wouldn't take my MPG estimates as gold. I've never driven an F600 with an FT long enough to worry about it.
But for 90 miles once a month i wouldn't worry about it. Just gas her up once a month.
Being a Uhaul truck it might be geared good enough to get decent milage.
