Instrument Cluster Problems

Hi, new forum member here. I have a 1988 Bronco II, XL with the 2.9 V-6, 4x4, 5 Speed tranny. It had the standard instrument cluster, no tach so I bought a nice cluster off of E-Bay that had the white face gauge conversion kit installed. This cluster has the tach and fits right in where the old one us. Here's the problem. When hooking up the wiring harness the oil light stays on and the tach goes to 5,000 RPM and stays there. What have I got? Defective cluster, wrong wiring harness, or just me not knowing what I am doing? I would really like to use the new cluster if anyone has any ideas.

what year is the swap from same as yours ?
model? auto or manual?
when you did the swap did you see any burnt connections on the back of the cluster
any tears on the connections?
more info would be of help

More Information

The instruments came from another 1988 Bronco II, but I don't know if it was manual or automatic. There were no visible burnt marks on the circuitry. Mine is a 1988 with a 5-speed. Also there were no tears visible. I'm thinking that the wiring harness connectors must be different for that particular instrument cluster. Doesn't make sense that Ford would do that, but that's the only explanation I have.
